Hi, I’m Mark Grapengater.

I met my wife Stacey in St. Louis while I interned at a church plant and Stacey was working in missions communications. Our mutual love of God and food nourished our relationship.

Our shared formation through overseas mission work (Costa Rica and Japan) and the hospitality industry deeply shaped our understanding of our mission and calling in Denver, CO.

We have three children: Michael, Evelyn, and Joshua.

My Story

Before entering pastoral ministry, I worked in the kitchen of a Michelin-starred restaurant in Chicago and ran kitchens in St. Louis. This experience in the hospitality industry led me to integrate hospitality throughout my ministerial and personal life.

As a pastor, my vocation is to pay attention to God and relate to people like Jesus did — eating and drinking, extending hospitality, acknowledging the imago dei within them, and inviting them to see what God is doing in their lives.

Denver is one of the most post-Christian cities in America. While many people identify as “spiritual,” few actually attend church or have a relationship with Jesus, let alone a pastor. As a pastor to the pastorless, I pursue people relationally and invite them into a relationship with Jesus, firmly believing their first step in their journey to the Lord’s Table begins at our family dining table.

Vocational Background

For over 20 years, I have served churches in Tulsa, Chicago, St. Louis, Atlanta, and Denver. I served as a missionary in Costa Rica, leading short-term mission teams. I am ordained in the Evangelical Presbyterian Church (EPC).

Educational Background

I received my B.A. in Spanish from Kansas State University and a Master of Divinity (M.Div.) from North Park Theological Seminary in Chicago, IL. Recently, I completed a Doctor of Ministry (D.Min.) focused on hospitality and the pastoral vocation through the Eugene Peterson Center for Christian Imagination at Western Theological Seminary in Holland, MI.
